James 3:16. Where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. Envy disorders what love orders.
1 Corinthians 13:4. Charity envieth not. Love is the counter to the comparing heart.
James traces the destructive fruit of envy; Paul names love as its opposite. Jealousy shrinks the heart; love enlarges it to rejoice with others.
Father, cleanse me of envy. Teach me to rejoice with those who receive what I wanted, and to rest in Your goodness to me.
Whose blessing am I unable to rejoice in, and what does that reveal about where I am seeking my worth?
