Psalms 42:11. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? Hope thou in God. The psalmist speaks to his own despair and turns it toward hope.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4. The God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our tribulation. Comfort is given to be received and then shared.
The psalmist names the cast-down soul honestly, yet addresses it with hope. Paul reveals God as the Father of mercies who comforts in every affliction. Depression is not a sign of faithlessness; it is a place where the Comforter draws near.
Father, when my soul is cast down, comfort me. Remind me of hope, and, if the darkness lingers, help me to seek the care You provide through others.
If this darkness is lingering, am I willing to accept the help God may be offering through a doctor, counselor, or friend?
This week, do two things: pray honestly about the darkness, and reach out to one trusted person or professional for support. You are not meant to carry this alone.
