1 Corinthians 13:4-5. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up. Love is the measure of a relationship before it is a feeling about one.
Proverbs 4:23. Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. A guarded heart keeps the beginning wise.
Paul defines love by what it does, not merely by what it feels. Solomon calls the heart the wellspring of life, worth guarding even in the early warmth of romance. Dating is not a race to be won but a heart to be kept.
Father, keep my heart as I pursue this relationship. Let love be patient and kind, and guard what is precious without giving it away too soon.
Am I pursuing this relationship with love and wisdom, or racing ahead with feelings I have not yet guarded?
