Ephesians 4:31. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away. Bitterness is to be put off, not managed.
Hebrews 12:15. Looking diligently lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you. A root grows where it is not watched.
Paul commands bitterness to be put away as a settled root, and the writer of Hebrews warns that a root of bitterness grows to trouble many. Bitterness will not stay contained; it must be uprooted by grace.
Father, dig up the root of bitterness in me before it grows. Replace it with the grace that forgives as You forgave me.
Whose name, when it comes to mind, sends a bitter root through my heart, and would I let God dig it up?
Name the person at the root of your bitterness. Pray for them each day this week, asking God to bless them and to free you.
